The 2023 Caja del Rio Endurance Ride in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is drawing ever closer, and we are very excited to announce a new sponsorship for Junior Riders by the Northern New Mexico Horseman’s Association (NNMHA)! This sponsorship provides funds to cover entry fees for young riders in the 2023 ride. These funds are limited, so sign up soon to have your junior (up to 16 years of age, per AERC rules) ride for free in any distance! For those who have already registered a junior rider for the 2023 Caja Ride, rest assured, your junior rides for free! This is a wonderful opportunity, and we are very grateful to the NNMHA. Please send them your thanks if you benefit from this sponsorship and consider joining if you are a local NM rider.
When your Junior is registered for the ride, you will be notified if there are funds remaining to cover their fees. If only partial fees remain, that portion will be deducted from their entry fee, with the remainder due by the day of the ride.
Please note that these funds do NOT apply to the AERC One-Day Membership Fee (applied to nonmembers entering the 30- or 50-mile rides). With that in mind, if you are not a current AERC member, consider using the money saved on entry to join the AERC before ride day!
As a reminder, AERC rules require that
All Junior riders in both full and Limited Distance rides, whether they are AERC members or not, must be accompanied by a competent adult (18 years or older) sponsor throughout the competition. Junior and Sponsor must ride together at all times, including entering and leaving all control checks at the same time; the only exception being that at the finish a Junior may finish within the same minute or within the one minute on either side of the sponsor’s finishing minute.
AERC Rules & Regulations, Rule 10
At the Caja del Rio Endurance Ride, this rule also applies to our Intro riders doing less than 25 miles. When registering a Junior, be sure to indicate who the sponsoring rider will be.

The Intro Ride is barefoot friendly, and no Coggins is required unless you are traveling from out of state.
