Read ahead to learn all the reasons this year’s Caja del Rio Ride is a must-attend event!
Juniors Ride FREE!
You heard that right! All Junior riders will ride for free at this year’s Caja del Rio Pioneer Ride. All AERC rules apply, but if your junior rider needs a sponsor, we will do our best to find one for them. In addition, we will have Junior-specific activities and awards (including a Junior Best Condition Award that only considers vet scores, not time or weight).
New Riders
For those who are new to endurance, this is a great ride to experience this wonderful sport. Our intro rides offer a wonderful introduction without the pressure of competition, and our 25- and 30-mile rides are easily doable with a fit trail horse. Not ready to ride but want to see what it’s all about? Come volunteer, meet some friendly folks, and learn about vet checks, pulsing, timing, and scribing.
Trails
The trails are looking beautiful with green grass from the recent rains for your horses to enjoy on the trail. All trails are two-track jeep roads with lots of nice footing stretched out between a few rocky stretches.
Food Updates
In other news, we no longer have a food truck coming due to licensing issues, which is unfortunate, and it is too close to the ride to find another vendor, so we are now planning to provide homemade New Mexican red chile Frito pies or burritos on Friday night with potluck dinners on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The Frito pies were a hit last year–you won’t want to miss them!
